FAQ: FAQ

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM
MY FIRST SESSION?

First of all, a big hearty welcome! Plan to arrive a little early to fill out a short form with your contact information & a short medical history if you haven’t done so online in advance. Having this form gives me a better understanding of how you are doing and what’s going on with your body both in the past and today.

Once that’s completed, we’ll have a short consultation where you can tell me about your goals for this session, any areas you want extra focus on, areas to avoid, etc. We’ll map out a plan for the session and then I’ll step out of the room so that you can get undressed to your comfort level and settle onto the table between the sheets. You are free to wear as much or as little clothing as you like, however, stretchy light layers (like yoga pants) will be easiest to work with in our sessions if you choose to be fully clothed.

When I return, we’ll adjust the headrest, bolsters, linens to make sure you are as comfortable as possible and then begin the session. Throughout the session, please feel free to speak up at any time to adjust your comfort level in pressure, position, temperature, or anything else,  I will do my best to make sure your session is cozy & comfortable for you!

As the session ends, I’ll step out to let you take some time to “come back to earth” and get dressed.  I'll return to the room where we’ll discuss ways you can assist the work we’ve done at home, schedule future sessions, and take care of payment.

WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU USE?

I prefer to use single-ingredient products like Jojoba and Coconut oil in my sessions for simplicity’s sake as well as to protect those with allergies. If you have a product you would you like me to use, I’m happy to discuss whether it would work well for your session.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT
DO YOU ACCEPT?

I accept payments of all types including cash, credit, HSA/FSA cards, PayPal, Venmo, & CashApp.  Personal checks may be considered on an individual basis. Tips are never expected, but gratefully accepted.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

My downtown SF studio is located in the Flood Building at 870 Market Street on the 12th floor. The Flood Building does have elevators and an accessible entrance on Market Street for those with mobility challenges.

Paid Parking is available in the area.  Closest is the Ellis-O'Farrell Garage just across the street behind the building on Ellis Street, but also accessible from O'Farrell.  There is an entrance for the Flood Building on Ellis next to John's Grill. Please allow for plenty of time to park as traffic downtown can be slow at times..

For those taking public transportation, the Flood Building is between two entrances to the Powell Street Station, making it very accessible by BART or MUNI as well as by Cable Car if you're feeling fancy -- both the Powell-Hyde & Powell-Mason lines end at Powell and Market.  a short distance from the entrance at 870 Powell.

WHAT DOES "UNDRESS TO
MY COMFORT LEVEL" MEAN?

Understandably, everyone has different levels of modesty and comfort around nudity.

Typically in a Swedish-style massage that uses oil or lotion, the norm is to undress fully (or leave just your underwear on) to allow for the long, flowing strokes (effleurage) and direct access to the skin throughout the massage. At all times, you will be draped with a sheet & blanket on any areas that are not being directly worked on for your warmth and comfort.

If you would prefer to wear clothing for your massage, we can still do your session using different techniques like compression, positional release, etc. Typically no oil/lotion will be used, except for small detail areas like the neck and hands. I suggest that you wear thin, flexible layers such as yoga pants and a t-shirt/tank that will allow as much access to to your body without having to go through thick layers of clothing.

WHAT ARE YOUR ILLNESS POLICIES?

With arrival of COVID-19 several years ago, we have all become more aware of how crucial infection control can be, especially when spending extended time in such an up-close environment as a massage session.  I continue to practice the same universal precautions I have had such as changing all table linens between clients, sanitizing the table & other surfaces in the room, & safely assessing whether a massage is suitable for each client before the session begins.   Since reopening my studio after COVID, I have also added a BlueAir whole room air filter that exchanges filter air 5 times an hour as well as having a new space that allows me to air out the room to the outdoors between sessions (or even during if you should wish.) Masks are available for your use and mine at anytime -- however, they are not required.

I experienced my own bouts with COVID-19 in May 2022 & February 2023 and certainly would NOT like to have that experience again, nor any other serious bug.  As such, I request that if you or a close family member or co-worker have been exposed or tested positive within a week of your planned session, please call or text me as soon as possible to reschedule.  If you have any suspicion of being sick with any bug on the day of your appointment, DO NOT COME IN!  While I would love to see you, you're much better off resting and recuperating at home and we can reschedule your appointment for a time that you will enjoy it more, too!  Thank you for your consideration to keep you, me & all those around us healthy and well!
